| Room exposure | Cooling-cost reduction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mostly north / shaded | ~5–15% | Least direct solar gain to reject |
| Mixed exposure | ~10–22% | Typical whole-home result |
| Lots of south / west glass | ~15–30% | Most heat to reject — biggest savings |

How much can window film save on cooling?
Solar-control film reduces cooling load by rejecting heat at the glass. The IWFA reports professionally installed solar film may cut cooling costs by up to 30% during the cooling season; in Niagara homes that commonly lands around $150–$500 a year. This calculator applies a 10–30% range to your cooling spend.
Are these savings guaranteed?
No. Savings are climate- and home-dependent. NREL research shows film delivers the strongest returns in warm-summer climates (like Niagara) and less in cold ones. Treat the result as a planning range, not a guarantee.
What affects how much I actually save?
Glass area and orientation (south/west windows gain the most heat), how hard your AC works, your electricity rate, the film chosen, and how much of your bill is cooling versus other loads.
